Can I record my own old clical song and consider it mine?

I know you can't use a recording of an old clic song (Bach, Beethoven, etc), but if I recorded my own (say either modernize it or simply play it old fashion), could it be considered mine and not have to worry about the copyright issues cause those songs are so old?
