How do I get rid of spiders in my home?

I just moved into a house that's aing the woods. It's beautiful, but I have two small children, a small dog and a huge fear of spiders. I know I can't get rid of all of them (the spiders, not the kids...ha!), but is there a way to get rid of at least enough of them that I'm not scared to move around here? Any suggestions that are kid/pet friendly would be greatly appreciated.
