Question about Ancient Rome, just serious answers please?

A slight refinement. The plebeians struggled successfully to establish a legal officer recognized by the Senate. These were the Tribunes. The Senate could veto a proposition put forth by the Tribunes, but the Tribunes could overrule the veto. This gave the people some protection.
